Gig Of The Week: Black Box Recorder @ Luminaire

After performing a one-off performance last October (number 9 in my end-of-year gig chart) Black Box Recorder return for two London shows, beginning this Wednesday at the Luminaire. Luke Haines is an under-appreciated pop genius, and this incarnation of his work has always been my favourite. Quintessentially British subject matter is their norm, icily delivered by Sarah Nixey. This has been long sold-out, and if you ain’t got a ticket there’s only one thing to say – “Kill yourself, or get over it“.

Sarah Nixey – The Black Hit Of Space

Classy cover from one of my favourite vocalists, lifted from her brilliant debut solo LP, Sing, Memory. The track itself is from vintage-era Human League, their second LP, Travelogue to be precise. Track both albums down if you have a chance, Nixey’s effort is particularly satisfying.
