Gig Of The Week 1 – Lily Allen @ Koko
I never was the biggest fan of Lily Allen, Smile just never did it for me. However The Fear is without doubt the first great single of 2009, and this is Allen’s first homeown gig in two years. If The Fear is representative of her forthcoming second album then the Koko crowd, and lovers of witty pop everywhere, should be excited. There’s also a quick appearance at G.A.Y. at Heaven on Friday for fans to look forward to.

Gig Of The Week 2 – Shhh @ Bush Hall
At the opposite end if the musical spectrum is a day long festival this coming Sunday at Bush Hall. Shhh is a celebration of ‘quiet music’, put on by great promoters, The Local. The day is headed up by former Björk engineer and collaborator, Valgeir Sigurðsson. With several further acts and a cracking location (Bush Hall is one of London’s most under-used live venues IMO) all for a fiver* – you’d have to have a good reason to miss out!
* Early bird tickets are a fiver, door price is £8. Get yer’ £5 tix on this link

Gig Of The Week: Mogwai, Fuck Buttons & Errors
A stellar post-rock lineup this Friday at Hammersmith’s venerable Apollo. Though The Hawk Is Howling is a little hard work Mogwai still have a live reputation that is untarnished. If they needed any encouragement to be on top form, there’s the potential for an upstaging from both bands. Bristol’s Fuck Buttons have produced a fantastic record in Street Horrrsing, and are a live draw on their own. Mogwai’s Glaswegian labelmates Errors complete the bill, and with tracks like Salut! France and National Prism look set to win some new friends. Obviously this is largely sold out, but I think there are a few seats left…
Gigantic / Stargreen
Mogwai – Hunted By A Freak (Live)
Fuck Buttons – Ribs Out
Errors – Cutlery Drawer
The gig that Hunted By A Freak is from can be found in full, and in great quality, here.
